Wal-Mart is opening up a new store in your community. You can help welcome Wal-Mart to the neighborhood by writing a letter to the editor of your local paper to let your neighbors know that Wal-Mart’s low prices mean high costs for your community.

Fewer than 50% of employees opt-in to Wal-Mart’s healthcare program because it is too expensive and inaccessible. As a result, individuals and families are forced to enroll in Medicaid. This “Wal-Mart tax” places a huge burden on taxpayers and families, at a time when health care costs are already so high.

Currently, twenty-three states have disclosed which companies have the most employees enrolled int heir state-funded health care programs. In these states, Wal-Mart tops the list of companies who depend on publicly-funded insurance.
