Be the Voice of Wal-Mart Watch!

We're turning our letter to Wal-Mart's Board of Directors into a gripping new video. It will be a visual representation of the passion, frustration, and hope of the Wal-Mart Watch community.

Every year, the Wal-Mart Board of Directors meets to plan the company's future. And every year, they ignore the welfare of their workers, the environment -- and the communities they move into.

At this year's Board meeting, Wal-Mart Watch will deliver a letter demanding that Wal-Mart change its ways.

This is a different kind of letter, written and signed by thousands of concerned citizens across America.

People like Chris Hargrove in Louisville, Tennessee.

Dan Peitzmeyer in Phoenix, Arizona.

Nina Otazo in Eugene, Oregon.

Chris Ebee from Baltimore, Maryland.

Mary Anne Borer, from Laverne, California.

Scott Langley, Dallas, Texas.

Our words make it clear to Wal-Mart's Board of Directors that we are united in our desire to see Wal-Mart become a responsible corporate citizen.

  • Fewer than half of Wal-Mart's employees are covered by the company health plan. The others must rely on government programs like Medicaid or go without health insurance.
  • Wal-Mart is currently facing a class-action lawsuit filed by 1.6 million female employees alleging widespread sex discrimination.
  • Wal-Mart turns wetlands into parking lots and ancient Indian grounds into super centers. And it has racked up millions of dollars in fines for air and water pollution.
  • Wal-Mart has pocketed more than a billion dollars in government subsidies, yet it uses shady real estate arrangements to avoid millions in taxes.

Success is about more than just the bottom line. It's about being a positive influence on the world. Sam Walton envisioned his company as a leader in compassion, integrity and fairness. So far, Wal-Mart's leadership has failed him, but now they have a terrific opportunity to finally make Wal-Mart the company Sam Walton always wanted it to be.
